World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips of items. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. The average item level can be found on the character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it is capable of causing. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done by using the level of the item.
On PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is calculated. Item Stats

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat in the range, unless they are an exclusive item or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
This is another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. Similar to base equipment, it must be done per item and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is especially useful in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances, which increase with each item level. They can also be increased by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item, up to 140.
Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or created with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it does not work.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..
The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. All items have a base success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5%.
The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
